101 Word Short Stories — Flippin’ Sweet!

May 13, 2008 by jslocomb

Saw this over at penny arcade: http://www.ommatidia.org/

Every day 101 words.  I didn’t count, but it looked about right. He categorizes them too so you can collect all the stories together.

It somehow makes writing a book seem like an obtainable goal.

See, I set this goal to get an ISBN a while back when someone I worked with was all geeked up telling me about how their daughter wrote this Christian/Western adventure book. I was like “Damn dawg, if a pre-teen girl can do it I sure as hell should be able to figure this out”.

Getting an ISBN is kind of a sub goal, I really actually want to write a book. I also want to obtain a patent.

Not sure what the book or patent is going to be about yet.

Ok, seriously. WTF is twitter for?

The twitter.com site says (I’m paraphrasing) “Stay connected to friends and family because even basic messages are meaningful when they are timely”.

Riiiiight. So to make this all work, you are actually near a PC to get the tweets and (posssibly really important) have friends.

We all have a device that keep us connected…it’s called a cellphone dammit! Is twitter the internet extension cum evolution of text messaging?

And yet I am having trouble reconciling how popular it is. I told my pal Rick Farris about it (his brother Brad told him first) as he so eloquently puts it: “It’s for letting everyone know when you fart.” Nevertheless, he seems to really like it judging by how much he posts to it.

Also, there appears to be all this etiquette surrounding it’s usage which, quite frankly, I find annoying. Is it just a high speed blog with more direct contact? Because if it is then I contend it is nothing more than a Ruby On Rails Experiment gone horribly awry.

ps. I have one: http://twitter.com/jasonsd73 </shameless plug>

A couple things

Links to the comics I like that I metioned in the last post.

Rooster Teeth, Penny-Arcade, and Dinosaur Comics

An acquaintance / old boss has a site that horks down a bunch of published comics that are amusing.

Check it out here: John’s Comics (sorry John, I hope United Media doesn’t come after you)

All this talk of comics is making me seem simple.

Now with Angst 2.0 (It’s angst-ier)

I love internet comics…Rooster Teeth, Penny Arcade, Dinosaur Comics.  A friend of mine introduced me to one you may have heard of over at XKCD.com that is excellent! Since I am a self professed nerd it speaks to me. I mean salty language, unusual humor, advanced math, what more could you want?

However, every so often he throws in a sad panda, broody, unrequited love comic that makes you want to throw yourself off a goddamn building. Jeez man, LET HER GO already.
